After six pieces of writing
-----正文-----
I have never imagined that I could write in English. Not the essays for the government classes or the connections, when I opened a file and typed the first sentence, I realized it is a fresh experience for me. I did write in Mandarin and Cantonese with various forms—lyrics, fictions, critiques on music—and during my over-ten-year writing, I have always been deliberating what I desire to write.
Stupid and mundane question. Of course every writer thinks about what’s going to happen in the story; it’s the most basic question and probably no one will regard it as the most labyrinthine one. But the story varies, and the motivations behind the story could be simple or complicated. My motivation is to trigger deliberation on issues happening in society. Therefore, “Talk,” where I was inspired by The Morning Show focusing on #MeToo, is a story that a girl who was raped by her boss called him while she committed suicide due to the sexual offense. Analogously, I narrated the sexual violence that happened in my high school as well as current China in “You Gotta Continue Walking,” anticipating that everyone will remember these and fight for justice. “How to Inadvertently Be a People’s Hero” came from a true story during COVID-19 pandemic, based on Dr. Li Wenliang’s death, introspecting the regulation on speech; and after the pandemic is almost gone in China, I expand another piece “How to NOT FORGET” on the former story.
